  1. JTW says:

I thing the Neptune fountain and St. Marienkirche are technically on the Rathausplatz. My understanding is that Alexanderplatz only extends as far as the aboveground (S/RE) part of the station. That also means the TV tower itself is not on Alex either, but the picture of it was taken from the other side of the station, which is Alexanderplatz. 😉

I’m trying to figure out where you took the picture of the Dom from; I forget where those fountains are. Is that across the river from Museum island, near Monbijoupark?

Beautiful pictures, though. Makes me homesick.

  2. The one with the fountains in the foreground – the fountains are between Marienkirche and the TV tower – if you’re facing the Statue of Neptune’s front, they’re to the Right. I was standing with my back to the TV tower, and just moved the camera on the tripod about 35 degrees to the left and down a bit to catch the fountains and the top of the tower. The dark stuff are the trees in the park with the Karl Marx Statues.

Oh – re it not being “Alexanderplatz” – I think you’re technically right. It was more the idea that it’s around the station area – because it’s all within a 1 – 2 block radius. Hard to explain that technically you go from Alexanderplatz thru the train station over to the TV tower, and suddenly it changes name to Marienkirche grounds, and then over by the Fountain, it becomes Rathhaus platz. I think to most of us (who aren’t natives or not living here long enough to know that) the area is just simply “Alexanderplatz”. :).

  3. I could arrange for that. I think, however, that I’m going to have more night photography in the next couple weeks. This new tripod is a better height and so much more stable than the last one I had.
