Why We Should Elect Barak Obama in 2008

I had a nice little chat with Johnny Montana (he’s from the UK) today over coffee. It was most interesting as we were discussing American Politics. He knows that I’m firmly rooted in my feelings about Barak Obama, and we were chatting about how I hoped that Barak would win the 3 state primaries today.

He brought up a few good points – including one that I really hadn’t thought of. If we as Americans are supposed to be a part of a Republic, why is it that two VERY RICH families (hello – Hillary just “lent” 5 million of her own money to her campaign – most of us will never see this much money in our lifetime!!) have come into power and stayed there for 20 years – and are attempting to make it 24 or 28?

Are Americans truly dumb enough to simply hand over those reins of power once again to a member of this dominant family and let an entire generation never see the truth of American Democracy in action – and potentially always feel that the leaders are disconnected from them? God Knows I hope NOT.

The last 20 years (Bush Sr – 4, Clinton -8, Bush Jr – 8) have been dominated by 2 families in leadership positions. Do we really want to have it be 24 (or god forbid 28?!?) ? That’s an entire generation (MY GENERATION) raised primarily by only 2 families in power – much like the kings and queens of old. What will the history books say… “The Bush-Clinton Power Years” Or worse yet “The Bush-Clinton Kingdom?!?”

Yeah.. let’s think about this. Restore the Republic – and prove that we do have other options out there. Let’s not fall into the same hole or make it 24/28 years of only 2 very rich (and might I add disconnected) families leading this nation.

In my Opinion, Obama is the only one that is actually presenting a reasonable platform for America – with NO serious extremes. Yes, he is a politician, yes, he is rich. However, he’s also educated, well spoken, and able to heal many of this country’s wounds that have been around since the Civil War. He is the American Dream. He IS the Best Choice.

Thus I say… It is TIME FOR A CHANGE in Leadership. AND we, the YOUTH have to help make it happen.

Our Parents may be Afraid, our Grandparents may just want to return to the conservative status quo. But we, the Youth know – this Nation Needs a different group of leaders. We NEED Leaders who REFLECT OUR BELIEFS (of total equality) , REFLECT OUR POPULATION (not only the whites – but all races and genders), and RESPECT “normal” AMERICANS (not just the rich or the lobbyists).

I see Barak Obama doing all of these things. But I can’t do it alone.

And so, if for no other reason – than to say hey, let’s end the 2 family power play – I ask you to think seriously, examine your heart, and then

ELECT Barak Obama in 2008!

Busy Weekend – Museum, Democrats and Got “LOST!”

It was another busy weekend for me. Friday night, I went out to dinner and hung out with “Bubba”. It was great. We went for Norwegian food and – despite having norwegian heritage, it was an amusing experience. We had some kind of meatballs with gravy, potatoes and berries. And we had blueberry crepes for dessert. Bubba was happy because he got to eat some comfort food and speak Norwegian for a bit. Personally, I think he’s having a bit of culture shock (it’s normal) and looking for something from home. I was only to glad to accompany him – it was a super meal – even though I still don’t know exactly what it was that I ate. BTW – Bubba, when you read this, you need to give me the name so I can have the recipe – and make it for ya.
After that, we were going to see a movie, but truly there was nothing playing. Well, except for Berlinale films – which are the artsy fartsy things that you’re never truly sure what you’re watching. And a one line blerp “a drama of a girl who travels and blah blah” doesn’t truly tell you much. Let’s just say that the way Sundance is set up is so much better than here in Berlin – and the book for sundance has the movie and a page number to find the blerp. Berlinale doesn’t – so by the time we found the blerps about the movies playing, they’d already started. As a result, we wound up people watching from the upstairs windows of Dunkin Donuts. That’s always fun.
Saturday, Rids woke me up at 7AM and wanted to go for a walk. We went out and came back. I hung out there for a while playing on the computer, then headed to Berlin to meet up with Bubba again. I had promised that we’d go to the Egyptian and Ancient World museum in Berlin. Having seen the real thing in context when I was in Egypt, it wasn’t half so interesting to see the stolen Egyptian artifacts in the Berlin museum. I was able, however, to impart a bit of knowledge (Ok so Bubba, you were bored – admit it!) from what I knew of these things. Otherwise, the most interesting point – the bust of Neferitiri – I saw it for about a minute and a half (I wanted to get photos but didn’t) because there were tourists around it 5 deep. Yeah ok, well, At least I’ve been to Egypt – which is more than I can say for most of the people gawking at the bust behind glass and lasers.
What was interesting of the museum (Again, Poor Bubba – being subjected to my dawdling in there) was the ancient Greek and Medeterrian artifacts. There was a whole display on mythology – and of course, I had to take pictures of the statues. Thereby – I had two favorite photos:

From there, we headed over to the Democrats Abroad party – and met up with JTW and Jong for drinks, some hideous bluegrass music (it was all about coal mining and revolution) while people voted, and then went to dinner at a Turkish Restaurant.
Sunday was great. I wound up heading to JTW’s where several of us “GOT LOST” and watched the mobile episodes, first two season episodes and had plenty of munchies. Then, I headed out for my dinner plans – and had a steak and salad. Oh – I almost forgot to mention the wandering around the Hauptbahnhof in Berlin and the eating of yummy ice cream. (Humm.. nearly my entire blog revolved around food…. must be close to lunch time.)
Ok well, that’s that. I’m going back to bed… maybe this time, I can sleep!

Antibiotics – good stuff

I’m still here. I’m feeling a bit better. Antibiotics are good stuff.
The only side effect?
I now have the sexy scratchy hoarse voice that will allow me to sing jazz in a nightclub. Yeah baby.
It’s amusing – everyone looks at me when I try to say something, then they start to laugh. Apparently, I just don’t fit that sexy sultry jessica rabbit profile anymore – or at least not while coughing and then blowing my nose.
Oh well, at least I’m feeling better and back at work.
On a side note – WOW!! THE PATRIOTS LOST!?!?! OMG!?! that must have been one heck of a game. Next year, Promoters, please put it on earlier so I can at least watch part of the game – no more kickoffs at midnight 30 – when Monday is a work day…..
