Czech Inn – Shiloh Palace

IMGP5738-1

3/22/2013 – Day two of gigs – Friday night- and it’s the joy of 4 more Bands this weekend. This time it was at a venue I’d never visited before, but they have local music on Friday nights under a program called “Freak Out Dublin” . Gigs are in the downstairs pub area, which has a small but well set up stage. The basement is long and narrow – with some cool lighting around the bar and some fabulous white couched areas to chat.

Second band up was Shiloh Palace. They’re fairly young – and in this case, the drummer wasn’t playing the traditional drum set in the corner. He was sitting on a wooden box beating out the rhythm with his hands and using his feet as well. This was interesting to listen to and to watch, and I quite enjoyed their musical style.

Photography in here is a bit of a challenge because on one end of the stage it’s a bit of back lighting, and on the other, spotlights over the drummer. There are also portable lights illuminating the singer and guitar players and which are moved with each band. As a result, most of these had to be flipped to black and white – rather than color – but hey, it just means rising to the challenge – and earning my keep.

First up was T’anks General – this time with their 4th Band member making his debut.

Captain America’s Live – Deuce, a Rory Gallagher tribute band

IMGP5605-7

3/21/2013 – Gig at Captain America’s Live in Blanchardstown, Dublin Ireland. Featuring 4 Bands. Last one up in the evening lineup – is Deuce, a Rory Gallagher Tribute band.

IMGP5602-5

I have to admit that I didn’t have a clue who Rory Gallagher was until after the show, and have since been enjoying a bit of his music. The group Deuce, however, are very good – and prompted me to go look up the music that they were doing in tribute to him. Deuce are a 3 piece blues rock style band. This was their first ever live gig, and after the other 3 bands, it was hard to know quite what to expect when I heard that bit of information. They’re toe-tappingly good, and had several people up and dancing in front of the band. There’s also a little surprise in the show – that the lead singer switches from playing a guitar to playing an electric banjo. I am looking forward to seeing them play later on this week – and am sure that the rest of the crowd will enjoy them just as much.

Sadly, they don’t have a facebook link yet, but hopefully they’ll have one soon. In the meantime, you can checkout more of my photos here in my flickr set.
