Lost in Translation (take 5)

Today’s lost in Translation is brought to you by the Japanese.
Check out the article at:
The jist of the article is really amusing. Basically, they have less that 7% of the crime of the USA , but the Japanese sensationalist media has made it so that the Japanese are afraid of everything. (Gee.. sounds like what our government is trying to do to us…but another day…) As a result, there are new “edgy” fashion designers creating purses that look like manhole covers (afraid of getting stolen? put it on the street – the crook will NEVER notice..) , sheets that if a woman is being followed she can “throw over her head” to look like a vending machine (now there’s a hideout for ya ), a backpack that expands in to the fire hydrant look (for children being followed) and other really amusing creations.
Even if you don’t want to read the article, it’s worth looking just for the pictures of people “wearing” their hiding place. (Say, why does that coke machine have feet, anyhow?!?)
As an American who has been trained to fight back (where as the Japanese simply would rather not create a scene) this is one of those things that qualifies as….
Lost in Translation.

Still sick.. but making an effort…

Yeah, I’m still sick. But, I’m bored too. I can’t sleep anymore so I’m going to try and update some suff in the blog.

Well… let’s see. I bought tickets to go to Salt Lake for Thanksgiving for a few days. That should be fun. The geocaching community there is already planning an event, and I’m supposed to stay at Bri’s house. Thing is that he chatted with me tonight – and his roommates had said when they moved in together it’d be ok. Yeah… well it’s not. So, now i’m trying to decide if I’m really going or not (hotel is doubling the price) or cancelling the ticket ($330 in penalties but alot cheaper than 1000 for a hotel / 11 days of car rental) and chalking it up to a learning experience.

I am, however, still sick, so I’m going to try to wait a few days and deal with it when I feel better.

In other news, isn’t the new profile picture great? JTW took it last saturday along with a whole bunch of others. A group of us went to the Oktoberfest tent here in berlin (ok it was terrible, let’s be honest) and then bailed after the guys drank a liter beer each. From there, we went to a housewarming party for Lucia – which is where I am drinking the blue margarita. Supurb. Thanks JTW!

If you want to see pics from both, check out my flicker site…

Final word of news – JCCE deployed for Iraq this week. He’s going to be stationed near baghdad I guess. I hope he’s allright – but he’ll be in my prayers until I know he comes home safe. I just hope it’s soon. JCCE – seriously- if something happens over there (shot, stabbed, blown up) I will find you and kick your ass. Trust me – I’m more scary than any one you’ll ever meet over there.
