Cotton Candy Dress for Baby

Crochet for baby...

What’s on my hook today? Any guesses what it is?

Cotton Candy for baby crochet baby dress in pink and pale sherbet green. Newborn size. #phoenixrosedesign #pink #green #sherbet #cottoncandy #baby #dress #cute #newborn #crochet #craft #creative #craftylady #creativity #babylove #handwork #handmade #etsyi

Started and completed while watching the Brazil v/s Chile world cup match on Friday – this adorable baby dress in sherbet green and pale cotton candy pink acrylic yarn. It’s perfect for a newborn little girl (and oh how summery and girly it is!). I’ll be making a hat and booties to match, to make a full set for my etsy store.

Honeycomb crochet

Untitled

My latest crochet project was that I decided to learn to do a more complicated cable type stitch, called the honeycomb. I found a gorgeous picture of a honeycomb stitch used on a blanket and thought I wonder what that would look like on a scarf or cowl.

Thanks to Bonnie Bay, I found a tutorial for how to do the stitch (link at bottom) and started working it up in some leftover “tardis” blue from another project. Unfortunately, the stitch is very 3 dimensional which means that it didn’t photograph well in the dark color:

However, because I had that blue and some lighter blue left, I decided to merge the two colors and make a bi colored cowl with the stitch. You can see the result (and the stitch) a bit better below:

Finally, I ran out of yarn, and decided to hook the whole thing together into a cowl. Add my new haircut and this is what you get – a light blue / tardis blue honeycomb crochet cowl.

Want to learn the honeycomb crochet stitch for yourself? Bonnie Bay has a great tutorial on youtube

Reddit Christmas Card exchange

lovely-card-exchange-1

For Christmas 2013, I signed up for the Reddit Christmas Card exchange. Often with the Reddit gift exchanges, folks don’t just exchange cards, they trade out little things in the cards that work as lovely surprises for their recipients. The person who sent me my card sent me a $15 itunes gift certificate and a lovely of Peanuts stickers. I was excited to receive them both.

In return, I sent my cards (I opted for two rematches for those that didn’t get their cards) out with crochet ornaments made from recycled old Christmas cards and some metallic thread crochet around the border. I had done crochet ornaments to go in my cards (see other posts) but these were a new design (see how to in another post) that I created specifically to be holiday ornaments. Different on each side, they went over well and hopefully will decorate their trees for many years to come.

Photos from the happy recipients below:
