Birthday Spa Weekend

For my big over the hill birthday, several friends and I went to the Spa at Johnstown House hotel & spa in Enfield, County Meath.

The building that the hotel is in is from the 1750s and is built in the Georgian style (1st photo). There are regular hotel rooms, a bar, a restaurant, a beautiful atrium with lots of windows. There’s also an indoor pool, hot tub, outdoor hot tub, and a spa complete with treatment rooms, caldarium and multiple types of sauna.

The best part is that there are some 120 acres of parkland around the property on which are executive apartments that are built for rental. We rented a self catering flat, and just had a really great girly weekend together. We had a fun time cooking dinner, laughing, playing games, having a few drinks, and just overall relaxing in the spa. I also got the most beautiful birthday cake made by one of the girls I work with – all in rainbow colors:

It was a great weekend spent with friends. As we left, there was one final picture – in the sun – which was great because as the girls sat together, a rainbow appeared. Yep. I’d have to say my friends are the gold at the end of the rainbow for me.

Last August, when my friend and I went to Loughrea for the middle ages festival we popped into a wool shop. While there, we found some beautiful King Cole Riot chunky yarn in the color moors. I bought the wool, and then started on a project for her as a “souvenir”.

The wrap took me months to make – but I think the colors and pattern turned out beautiful. One of my favorites (I didn’t add the fringe from the pattern) and it’s turned out huge – enough to wear almost as a small blanket… but it folds up nicely into a wrap/scarf or otherwise.
