November Fog

Morning Fog

When I woke up this morning, it felt like November. I don’t think I can really describe what November feels like, but I’ll try. To me, it’s blue light at dawn, cold icy fog, and blustry winds which make your cheeks turn pink and your body crave hot drinks. November is the leaves pouring off the trees in final effort to escape their masters, it’s the beginning crunchy chocolate mud puddles and of silver-white frost underfoot. November is the scent of chilled decaying dampness mixed with the intoxicating burning smoke from peat fires. It’s the need for hats, scarves, and warm woolen pullovers. It’s the first vision of the white cloud of your breath and the steam off the dog’s stream as he takes his morning walk. It’s November, and it’s a feeling that we’re just on the cusp of winter. Perhaps it’s best put into pictures…. as November is finally here.

Morning Fog

Somewhere in the picture above is a 7 storey building, that is 2 blocks away… Can you see it?

Morning Fog

Even the shopping mall is blurry in the fog and mist and blue light. It feels like depth perception as seen through a fish eye, but no, it’s just November.

Cat sitting

I love animals. It doesn’t matter what type of animal they are, if they’re living and someone can have them as a pet, I will most likely adore it. Because I enjoy animals and have a dog myself, I often find that I’m picked to watch pets while my friends go out of town. This week, it’s H’s kitty, Grover.

Grover kitty

Poor little Grover was named when she was a kitten, and mistakenly believed to be a “boy”. Upon the first vet visit, surprise surprise, he was a “she”, but by then, it was too late. She is and remains a Grover kitty.

She’s very sweet, and at about a year old, she is one fun kitten to play with! The best part? She loves to be petted, purrs like a car, and she makes great biscuits!

Tour Guide

Untitled

Last week, after having photographed J’s beautiful wedding in Mullingar (photos coming / blog post coming – I promise) I had an extra day off. A friend of mine had his brothers in town, so I volunteered to take all 3 of them up to visit New Grange Passage Tomb in the rain. I’ve written about this place before (see link above) and am always fascinated when I take other people up here.

My plans, however, were foiled by the typical Irish weather. It was slightly cloudly when we left, and by the time we took the hour drive up to the Boyne Valley, it was sprinkling… Just after lunch, it started raining. While we were up at the monument itself (it is open and there is NO protection from the elements) it started lashing rain. Thankful I had remembered umbrellas and my multiple raincoats, I had to laugh as Matthew popped up his umbrella and started with his rendition of “Singing in the Rain” in a Glasgow Accent.

Cancelling the idea of going to Knowth and Tara (posts behind each link here), I took the guys up to Trim Castle just in time for the rain to clear – and for me to find out that we missed the last tour of the gorgeous keep and grounds.

The good news, however, is that the guys are never deterred – and we went to the pub I knew about in Trim -where the owner promptly came forth and regailed the guys with tales of Trim, expounded about the locals that were extras in Braveheart, showed off tons of movie memorabilia in the hallway and really salvaged the day out. In the end, despite the lashing rain and getting soaked – we had a great time, and a few laughs.
