Successful Party Crashing

Sometimes in life, you have to get with the party. The Christmas Party, that is.
What do I mean by that? Well, I heard through the grapevine that the Company Christmas party in Dublin was going to be semi-formal, and at a 5 star hotel. Rather than going to the one here in Germany, I managed to get a flight, a gown, and hope to crash the party in Dublin – by bringing my work badge.
It worked!

Thanksgiving in Germany

Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated in Germany. This year, JTW is moving back to the states, but he decided to have a little get together and have a more traditional Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is one of those difficult concepts to try to explain to others who don’t celebrate it. My theory is that it’s all about the family and friends, spending time cooking together (laughing and joking) and then, having a feast of gluttony – and maybe watching the Macy’s Parade or football on TV.

As always, I made the turkey (this time it was just the night before) – and this year’s bird, despite being small by American standards – barely fit in the oven. It did, however, turn out beautifully.

Big Bird for Dinner

I took a taxi up with the bird and stuffing, and we headed off to the Christmas Markets. Then, we made all the sides, and the pies, and just had a great time.
All the pictures are up here, if you want to check them out. So, Happy Thanksgiving all, I hope yours was great!

Berlin Illuminated

This year, between the 14 and 26 of October, they had something called the Berlin Festival of Lights. No, it’s not quite like the festival of lights in the US which consists of Christmas trees in a warehouse that have been decorated and auctioned for charity. Instead, here in Berlin, they haul out spotlights in different color and put them onto their most favorite buildings. They also host specialty “art” competitions that deal with the use of light in their works.

The local group that I try to participate in is trying to get a photography group organized, and this caused me to get out and make a bunch of photographs, at night, while fighting through the crowds. Night time photography is difficult, to say the least, but I’ve now gotten my photographs posted in a set on flickr.
