Snowflakes

Snow flurries out the window at work. #ireland #dublin #snow #blizzard2015 #whitestuff

Here in Dublin, we’ve been dealing with overnight snow showers that are continuing just into the morning commutes before the weather clears up into cold sunshine. The snowflakes are not really that bad (for a girl who has lived in Utah and grown up with Christmas in Wisconsin) but because it is snow and makes everything slick it has made for interesting commutes since folks don’t know how to drive in the “conditions”. (Rain yes, Snow, no.)

The above is a picture taken out of my work window. In truth, the snow wasn’t that bad – this is at the maximum zoom, and then flipped to black and white to make it look like it’s a blizzard. Just goes to show how a bit of manipulation of color / zoom can change what it looks like is really happening. The same can be applied to many things in life.

Abuse your Illusion

For me, last Friday was a busy night. Not only did I get to do some great whiskey tasting at the Dublin Whiskey Festival, I made it to Fibber Magees in time to catch a Guns and Roses Tribute (cover) band, called Abuse Your Illusion.

The band started at 11 PM, and did a full 2 hour set covering all of the best Guns and Roses songs. The above is some of the highlights and photos put together into “video” format. (Sorry it’s a bit far back as I was at the back – to avoid the front pit.) Overall, the crowd was pretty great, and as you can hear from the video, they were singing along to everything from Patience, to Sweet Child o’mine to November Rain, to Paradise City, and Knocking on Heaven’s Door, and Live & Let Die. I can’t imagine how hot the band was (under the spotlights and in costume) but they really had down the mannerisms and sound of the original. They were brilliant, and I look forward to going again when they’re in town.

Navy, Mulberry and Petrol Cowl

Doing a bit of retro blogging today, as I am trying to catch up on several Crochet projects that I did and then gifted for Christmas. Since I didn’t want to reveal the “gift” until after the person received them, it only makes sense.

The last time I was in the USA, I went shopping with my step mom. She helped me pick out some gorgeous yarn, in 3 shades – Mulberry red, a beautiful turquoise blue, and a lovely navy. They all went together, and the original plan was to make a certain type of scarf. After returning to Ireland, I unfortunately discovered there wasn’t enough to do what I’d wanted. So, I frogged the entire scarf – and put the yarn aside.

This winter, I picked the yarn back up, and made a shell stitch cowl – with the 3 colors. It’s an infinity scarf / cowl, and I think it turned out pretty. I gave it to my stepmom as a Christmas gift. This is me modelling it.
