Note from May 17:
I got home from my trip to Amsterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh – with not much excitement to tell about. It was a lovely trip. In summary – I’m not sure when I’ll get pictures posted – I’m still working on the ones from Ireland (and that was the end of March!!) what you’re seeing here is a backlog of notes from the trip that I compiled – day by day… that are just now getting posted (but on the dates it happened instead of now…)
I arrived in Glasgow in time for dinner. The airport was ok, and the trip back to where I was staying wasn’t too long by taxi (thank god for english, even if it does have a Scottish Accent!). After popping into a grocery store (Yumm… crackers.. yumm… chips… yumm… my favorite face wash… yummm… tea!) for some essentials, I had lasagne for dinner – wihch was made from scratch (thanks AD). After hanging out a bit, I got settled and went into a deep sleep. You know what I mean when I say one of those where your head hits pillow, and you’re out cold type sleeps? Yeah…. I guess my brain shut down like a light switch.
The next morning (May 10) I got up late and ate breakfast (Pop Tarts RULE!) and headed on the subway into the main part of the city. After seeing George’s Square, and popping and out of some shops (Lush has the best smelling body products!!) , I caught a bus tour of the city. I got pictures from the bus, but because it was Saturday, nearly everything was closed by 5pm. This meant no museums, and not alot of time for seeing the extras. Had I known that – I would have surely gotten up earlier. On the bright side, the weather was pretty warm though overcast – with a few late afternoon sprinkles.
After eating some dinner (really, I’m giving up on Mexican food in Europe – bad bad bad – chicken quesodilla – with barbeque sauce and mashed potatoes? WTF?!?) and then running back to change clothes, I met up with AD and his brothers. We headed over to the solid rock cafe, and then to a club for some dancing. It was great fun – and trust me when I tell you that it was nice to hear some non rap/hip hop stuff – and get into the rock/alternative that I enjoy. Finally!
Got home about 3 am (what does it say about a city where they funnel people from the clubs into a line on the main street where the taxis pull up into a line – and you take them in order…. then the taxis return for more people – like a rotating circuit?) and truly, I was pretty sober. There were plenty of others who weren’t (including people who could barely walk up the street, were vomiting in the corners and etc) but hey, I’m glad that wasn’t me.
Sunday dawned early and I was packing a small bag to head off to Edinburgh – to see the castle, go to the Witchery for Dinner, and just enjoy myself.
