Update: Care boxes for Serve the City

This is just a quick follow up post to the blog post on Valentine’s day – where I participated in the creation of over 200 Serve the City Care boxes for the less fortunate.

All of our boxes delivered on Valentine’s Day. They went multiple places – which included a women’s refuge centre, drug rehabilitation centre, family support network and individual homes of elderly, disabled and disadvantaged people.

— One lady commented that it was the nicest gift she’d ever received!!

Now if that doesn’t make the universe a better place, I don’t know what does!

Packing Care Boxes for Serve the City

Happy Valentine’s Day! This week has been another busy one. One of the best things about where I work is that we always try to do our best to help the community via charity.

On Thursday night, I and 16 other people from eBay Dublin got together in partnership with Serve the City Ireland and we put together 200 boxes for the under privileged.

We glued together the boxes, added tissue paper, put in the items, and then closed them up with a bow and a card for each one.

What’s amusing is that I originally volunteered to write half (100) of the Valentine cards. Jose drew the outside of the card –

and Once they saw my penmanship, creativity, and artistry, however, I ended up composing the inside of all 200 cards! My hand was sore at the end – and so was my shoulder (seriously – who writes ANYTHING anymore – let alone 200 cards!) but it was well worth it.

Ever wonder what 200 care boxes look like? Well, now you know:

Tree Planting Day

This way to the Trees!

The local Waterville Park a few blocks from my house is still a work in progress. They’re still adding benches, building workout equpment, and doing some landscaping. On Saturday, March 10, the county council and Ikea hosted a party where everyone in the community could come out and plant trees along the freeway.

Great marketing – because Ikea had a raffle (I won a computer backpack filled with goodies), face painting, and provided the trees. The County council provided the equipment and 3 organisers for a few hours.

The first one's almost done

And the community came out and provided their shovels and labor to make the park more beautiful! I got to see some neighbors and their kids – whom I hadn’t seen since last fall. The best was that I had got to invite my friend H and her daughter, C to come have some fun “playing in the dirt”. All told, we planted two trees – the first one, Charlotte and I did – and the second – Charlotte planted by herself!

I'll dig the 2nd one!
Hop on the shovel like a pogo stick

All in all, it was a great day out – planting trees, and adding a bit back to the park that we enjoy so much.

Like an ad for a shovel!

Yay! Trees!

I love Trees!
