The local Waterville Park a few blocks from my house is still a work in progress. They're still adding benches, building workout equpment, and doing some landscaping. On Saturday, March 10, the county council and Ikea hosted a party where everyone in the community could come out and plant trees along the freeway. It's a great idea - and we had fun planting. Lots of pictures - and work for a good cause!

For World Book Day, my team organised a book drive for the children at a local charity creche. We ended out with roughly 1 book per child, a few toys, and a handful of art supplies. Charity begins at home, and learning depends on the ability to read. For those of us who spend our days reading and responding -this was a great way to encourage the next generation. Thanks to everyone who donated!

There are several Gardens at Kylemore Abbey - there's the lower gardens, which are filled with trees and walking paths around Lough Pollacappul. Then, there are the upper gardens. A short drive (or walk) by bus leads you up the hill to the top of the Mountain. When you first get out of the bus, the view (above) is breathtaking and natural. As you walk on the pathway, you begin to see the Walls of the garden - surrounded with these giant trees that were so big that I couldn't get my arms around....

I wasn't sure what to do this year, and then I saw a simple idea on one of the Martha Stewart pages -- Love Lollies!! I think they turned out great, and wish I would have figured this out sooner. They'd be perfect Valentines for the kids to share.

Continuing my travels up the West coast of Ireland last summer, I drove from Salthill’s beautiful Galway Bay hotel, through Connemara and its detours, and then on to Kylemore Abbey. The story of Kylemore Abbey is a story of love and loss, vision and tragedy, and finally hope. The place is a beautiful home -turned Benedictine Abbey - nestled between a mountain and a lough and well worth the drive. Pictures and a brief history here.
